February - march | DESTINAZIONE: abruzzo & Molise
Our Abruzzo trek was all about getting lost—in every sense. Our first view of the Adriatic hills came while hopelessly off-course on what Google Maps called a “road,” but felt more like a path through a field. In the hilltop town of Atri, we lost each other in the maze of medieval streets, circling the main square until reuniting over Cerasuolo and fried snacks.
Our winery hosts told us not to bother with directions—no service once you hit the gravel roads—so we wandered through Montepulciano vines, following small blue arrows toward the winery.
That night’s plans were washed away by the first storm in six dry months. We braved the rain to pick wild chicory and cooked spicy orecchiette together as dark clouds rolled over the olive steppes.
No matter how lost we get, we always find our way back to pasta.
